Turn Back Drive © Hansen/Busborg/Nielsen

Of all the places in this world I could have gone with you

I never thought that this was where the road would lead us to

We sort of went along, but we stopped talking on the way

And now it’s getting hard to find the words we want to say

We made a left turn, where we should have gone right

The sign said stop, but we drove all night

We said it’s all right

And everything’s fine

Now we’ve got stage fright

Forgetting our lines

Ran every red light

On our way

To this place we’re in, but is this really where we want to be

Turn Back Drive

The road looked straight and smooth, it should have been an easy drive

And I don’t know how it became this messed-up, bumpy ride

We hit the curb a couple of times, but little did we know

We’d wind up on the shoulder here with nowhere left to go

We had our chance to get this right, still we got it wrong

And stuff that doesn’t kill you doesn’t always make you strong

We said it’s all right

And everything’s fine

Now we’ve got stage fright

Forgetting our lines

Ran all the red lights

On our way

To where we’re at, which sure is not the place we planned to be

We’re stuck on Turn Back Drive

A long way from home

But, I know, however bad things got

With you I ain’t never felt alone

Please say it’s all right

And everything’s fine

This gap is too wide

So throw me a line

Stop chasing red lights

On our way

Let’s turn this thing, hit the gas and head on back

Turn Back Drive

Let’s go back this time make sure we get to where we want to be

Turn Back Drive

Turn Back Drive

Stop chasing red lights

We’re on our way
